The Survey:

Since early 2004, the institutional equity research firm, FTN Midwest Securities Corp., has been in consultation with IAPS to obtain our assessment of the interest in, and demand for, Red Hat Linux and Linux training in the enterprise.

The interest/activity level of Red Hat in the Linux/OS market
The interest/activity level of Microsoft in the Linux/OS market

The Purpose:

FTN Midwest incorporates the insights gained from their independent market research into the industry reports and buy/sell recommendations they provide to mutual fund and hedge fund managers interested in Red Hat and other software stocks. They conduct periodic interviews with knowledgeable Linux training providers, technical recruiters, system integrators, value added resellers, application developers and senior IT managers.

As a Linux training and consulting firm, we concur with FTN Midwest that training activity usually increases before or shortly after an investment in technology is made, so it can often be a leading indicator of business trends and performance.
